Bolingbroke Castle, South-West Wall - a photo on Flickriver

Bolingbroke Castle, Lincolnshire , remains of southwest wall showing two towers, the moat and part of the rout field. . Built 1220 - 1230, for Randulph de Blundeville, Earl of Chester later Earl of Lincoln. Unusually for a castle at this time it was built on flat ground. It appears to have been typical Angevin construction. Now run by English Heritage. Rout is an old Lincolnshire term for a pen for stray cattle. The moat is now a nature conservancy site.
