Houses at Ganavan Sands - a photo on Flickriver

My travels around the UK by car for three weeks with my son. June/July 2019 Scotland.

Day fourteen .. making our way to Inverness, where we are staying the night.

It was so busy we didn't stop to take a look around as there were no parks about.

During WWII Ganavan Sands was a base for Sunderland flying boats, the boats were serviced in a shed- long gone- and were pulled up and down on two concrete ramps- this was a vital base during the long years of war. The success of the work done in those difficult times and the bravery of the people involved is partly responsible for us to be able to visit this beautiful beach in a free country. They were the people who were prepared to give their tomorrow's, for our today! Something for us to think about as we stare out to sea.

Oban. An t-Òban in Scottish Gaelic meaning The Little Bay) is a resort town within the Argyll and Bute council area of Scotland. Despite its small size, it is the largest town between Helensburgh and Fort William. During the tourist season, the town can play host to up to 25,000 people. Oban occupies a setting in the Firth of Lorn. The bay is a near perfect horseshoe, protected by the island of Kerrera; and beyond Kerrera, the Isle of Mull. To the north is the long low island of Lismore and the mountains of Morvern and Ardgour.
