Broken Group Islands - a photo on Flickriver

            West Coast Adventure on the MV Frances Barkley, Port Alberni to Bamfield and back.

Threading our way through the Broken Group Islands on the ship MV Frances Barkley. The islands are part of the Pacific Rim National Park, desolate and secluded at the mouth of British Columbia's Barkley Sound. The group of small islands are known internationally for awesome kayaking, camping and other wilderness activities. On the way to Bamfield the ship stopped at Sechart Lodge to pick up a couple of passengers and a four more with their kayaks along the way. To drop off the kayakers the ships crane hoists a platform  into the water with the kayaker sitting in the kayak and he or she just paddles away. If being picked up they paddle onto the platform and then they are hoisted up onto the ship while sitting in the kayak. As we traveled though the Sound numerous  bears, seals, sea lions and humpback whales were seen.
