            Berberis fremontii—Fremont's barberry.  The species bears California Rare Plant Rank: 2B.3 (rare, threatened, or endangered in CA; common elsewhere). Populations are found outside California as far east as Texas and as far north as Wyoming.  It is also found in Sonora and Baja California, Most of the existing California populations are within the Mojave National Preserve.  One has to wonder how secure these populations are when some are listed as falling within the Ivanpah quadrangle on US Geological Survey maps.
