Dom And Museum Ludwig - a photo on Flickriver

            De dom van Keulen (Dom St. Peter und Maria) is een gotische kathedraal in het centrum van de Duitse stad Keulen. Het is de hoofdkerk van het aartsbisdom Keulen. Het is de grootste kathedraal in Duitsland en een van de grootste van Europa. De bouw begon op 15 augustus 1248 en duurde 632 jaar. Vanaf de 157,38 meter hoge noordtoren en de 157,31 meter hoge zuidtoren (beide 509 treden), kan men de hele stad overzien. De dom is gebouwd in de vorm van een kruiskerk en is inclusief het schip en de torens 144,58 meter lang en 86,25 meter breed. Het gebouw heeft een bijzondere inventaris, waaronder enkele glas-in-loodramen die dateren uit de 14e en de 16e eeuw. Sinds 1996 staat de dom op de Werelderfgoedlijst.

Museum Ludwig is het museum voor moderne kunst van de stad Keulen, gelegen achter de Dom van Keulen, nabij de Rijn en vlak bij het centrale treinstation. Het museum maakt deel uit van de Ludwigmusea en toont beeldende kunst uit de 20e en de 21e eeuw. Het Museum Ludwig behoort tot de toonaangevende musea voor moderne kunst in Duitsland en behoort tot de Collectie Ludwig of de Sammlung Ludwig. In de directe omgeving bevindt zich het Römisch-Germanisches Museum. Het museumgebouw is door zijn opvallende architectuur een karakteristiek onderdeel van het stadsbeeld.
