Ocean Beach 1 - a photo on Flickriver

Ocean Beach 1

            Stayed in the Ocean Beach community of San Diego for the 4th of July this year.

Even though I had lived in San Diego for nearly 13 years, I almost never went to the beach and even when I did go to the beach, I think I only brought my camera down there twice. Pretty strange since I spend most of my time traveling to other beaches and coastlines just to take pictures there. I guess having been gone from San Diego for nearly a year provided the distance needed to be able to capture this photo.

This is the Ocean Beach pier, the 2nd longest pier on the west coast. There's lots of great little rocks and tide pools out in Ocean Beach, including the ever fun to visit Sunset Cliffs. 

To capture this photo, I stacked a ten stop as well as a three stop ND to be able to get a two minute exposure at f/11. Since I've found my lens is much sharper around f/11 (as compared to f/22), I've been forced to stack additional ND filters to be able to keep what I've found to be a pretty magical exposure time of two minutes.

The image was then processed in Silver Efex Pro 2 within Photoshop CC (mainly because I've found myself using multiple Silver Efex Pro 2 conversion layers masked together to get the right balance of water, rock, and sky textures).
