Monroe, Georgia: City of Governors - a photo on Flickriver

            Monroe, Georgia, named after the fifth U.S. President, James Monroe, is located in the heart of Walton County. It was established as the county seat in 1821. The town proudly calls itself the "City of Governors", because of the four Georgia governors who have hailed from here. Monroe has a current population of around 11,400. 

I have been in Monroe several times over the years in my journeys through Georgia. The photos on this page were taken on my most recent visit there, in September, 2007.
