Bleached old film effect - a photo on Flickriver

A way to simulate the "Bleaching" darkroom technique for color film.

1) Create a duplicate layer in Photoshop and add a Hue/Saturation adjustment. Reduce Saturation to -60 or greater. Set layer blend mode to "Overlay".
2) To add selective focus to foreground elements, merge your two layers into one. Create a duplicate layer and apply a gausian blur to it. Set layer blend mode to "Lighten". Take an eraser tool at 100% opactity and erase away the subject you wish to appear sharp from the blur layer.

Now your sharp background layer shows through only for the foreground subject and the rest of the image is slightly blurred to focus the user's eye on the foreground subject, simulating low depth of field of an inferior lens, or old camera.
