Detroit Skyline from the Brewster Projects [A630-2503]

This photo was taken with a camera lofted by a kite and during World Wide Kite Aerial Photography Week 2011 (WWKAPW2011).

The Brewster-Douglas Housing Projects were built by the city of Detroit between 1935 and 1955 and were intended for the "working poor". In the 1960s and 1970s, crime in the projects became prevalent and they fell into disrepair. The complex was home to such notable figures as Diana Ross, Mary Wilson, Florence Ballard, Lily Tomlin, and Smokey Robinson. In 1994, part of the projects were demolished and replaced by townhomes (the "New Brewster Homes") seen in the background of some of the shots in this set.
