After The Maples Finish Blooming - a photo on Flickriver

            While out for a pandemic walk early one morning a week or so ago, I found myself walking on a significant layer of yellow plant material. Each year, the maple trees bloom as a prelude to forming their seeds, the maple keys familiar to kids. But once the blooming is finished, a massive dump of the spent flowers takes place coating the ground over a very short period, one or two days. For this image I located a nice strong diagonal line in the form of a concrete curb and produced this somewhat abstract image. - JW

Tech Details:

Taken using a hand-held Nikon D7100 fitted with an AF-S DX Nikkor 18-105mm 1:3.5-5.6 lense set to 42mm, ISO110 (Auto ISO), Daylight WB, Centre-Weighted metering, Shutter priority, f/9.0, 1/200 sec with an EV+0.67 exposure bias. PP in free Open Source RAWTherapee from Nikon RAW/NEF source file: set final image width to be 8000px, brighten image overall by setting exposure compensation to EV+0.20, enable Shadows/Highlights and bring up highlights as well as slightly boosting shadow recovery to bring out gutter details, boost contrast and Chromaticity in L-A-B mode, adjust white balance to reduce a bit of a magenta colour cast, slightly boost Vibrance, sharpen (edges only), save. PP in free Open Source GIMP : use the tone curve tool to bring up the mid tones without brightening the lightest areas, sharpen, save, add fine black-and-white frame, add bar and text on the left, save, scale image to 2048 px high for posting online, sharpen, save.
