Marker Post, Old Grimsby Pumphouse - a photo on Flickriver

            In our walk the other day, we decided to drop by the old pumphouse along the South shore of Lake Ontario in Grimsby, Ontario. We wanted to see how far the lake level had dropped (quite a bit since the summer, actually). I have stood near this old marker post of some kind many times looking across to Toronto some 40 km North of here but never figured out the purpose/significance of that painted concrete post. The paint job looks a bit hap-hazard and is significantly weathered as it should be given its constant exposure to the winds of the lake. I like the paint textures and patterns as well as the metal anchoring inserts. A nice little abstract in blue and white, with a bit of corrosion and rust for accents. - JW

Taken using a held Olympus OM-D EM-5 fitted with an Olympus M Zuiko 14-42mm EZ 1:3.5-5.6 lens set to 42mm, Program mode, Daylight WB, Matrix metering, ISO200 (Auto ISO), f/6.3, 1/125 sec. PP in Open Source RAWTherapee from Olympus RAW/ORF source file: set final image height to be 8000 px, brighten the image overall by setting exposure compensation to EV+0.23, boost Contrast, enable Tone Mapping at default levels, slightly boost Chromaticity and slightly reduce lightness in L-A-B mode, boost Vibrance a bit, use Tone Curve 2 in parametric mode to boost the Lights and Highlights to brighten the ‘white’ patch along the eft half of the frame, use the Shadows/Highlights tool to bring up the deep shadows a bit, sharpen (edges only), save. PP in free Open Source GIMP: fine tune the overall tonality by using the curves tool, slightly boost overall saturation to clean up the colours, sharpen, save, scale image to 6000px high, sharpen, save, add fine black-and-white frame, add bar and text on left, save, scale image to 3000 px high for posting online, sharpen slightly, save.
