Almost exactly 4 years ago I and a couple of other family members was on a photo excursion through the US Southwest. In the process we visited Mesa Verde National Park in Colorado. Naturally we had to sent postcards to friends and family to ensure we would be welcome back home. And that is why we visited the park post office, a small cabin lit by somewhat dim incandescent lighting and adorned with a small array of vintage mail boxes. I miss travel. Taken using a hand-held Nikon D7100 fitted with a Nikkor 18-105mm VR lense set to 28mm, ISO100, Daylight WB, Matrix metering, Aperture priority mode, f/6.3, 1/15 sec with an EV+0.33 exposure bias. PP in free Open Source RAWTherapee from Nikon RAW/NEF source file: set final image size to be 9000 px wide, level image, correct perspective distortion, correct barrel distortion, set exposure to EV-0.20 to slightly darken the image, use the Tone Curve 2 tool in parametric mode to darken the highlights (the bright reflections) as well as slightly darken the darks, use the Shadows/Highlights tool to recover highlight detail in the reflections, slightly increase contrast in L-A-B mode, increase vibrance slightly, apply some noise reduction, sharpen (edges only), save. PP in free Open Source GIMP: load the image as two layers, bottom layer labeled right, and top layer labeled left, add white/opaque layer mask to the top/left layer, use a large soft black paint brush to paint right half of the layer to make it transparent, adjust the brightness of the top/left layer to better match the tonality of the the right side of the image and than also slightly boost its contrast, on the top/left layer slightly increase its overall saturation and then reduce the red-channel-only saturation to get a better color match with the right side of the frame, create a new working layer from the visible result, tweak contrast and brightness slightly to optimize the ‘look’ of the image, sharpen, save, scale image to 6000 wide, sharpen slightly, add fine black-and-white frame, add bar and text on left, save, scale image to 3000 wide for posting, sharpen slightly, save.
