While driving South on Victoria Ave in Vineland, Ontario, I passed a distinctive fruit stand owned by Bizjak Farms. The North wall of the stand is a large stylized graphic panel depicting the variety of fruits gown in the area as well as some of the baskets used to collect picked fruit, and a few bees for good measure. I decided to shoot it as a split frame composition as seen here. As for the timing, I happened to be there as a rain storm was clearing and the colours all seemed to work nicely together. Taken in December, the stand was closed for business, giving me an opportunity to capture the image without people and their cars. - JW

Taken using a tripod-mounted Olympus OM-D EM-5 fitted with an Olympus M.Zuiko 14-42mm 1:3.5-5.6 EZ lens set to 23mm, Aperture Priority mode, Daylight WB, Matrix metering, ISO200 (Auto ISO), f/8.0, 1/4 sec with an EV+1.00 exposure bias. PP in free Open Source RAWTherapee from Olympus RAW/ORF source file: set final image width to be 8000px, level the image, enable Tone Mapping at default levels, apply Dynamic Range Compression at default levels, use the Graduated Neutral Density/GND tool to darken the sky and bring out cloud detail, boost contrast and Chromaticity in L-A-B mode, use the shadows/Highlights tool to recover shadow detail, reduce the blue colour cast in the stand wall by shifting colour temperature to yellow, boost Vibrance a little, apply a bit of noise reduction, sharpen (edges only), save. PP in free Open Source GIMP: load the image as two layers, top layer for adjusting the stand wall and the bottom layer for adjusting the sky, add a black/transparent layer mask to the top/stand wall layer and on it paint in the wall area using white/opaque paint, boost contrast in the stand wall layer and then use the Tone Curve tool to get a better overall tonality in the wall, adjust the colour balance to further reduce the blue colour cast on the wall and then boost its overall colour saturation, use the contrast/brightness tool to boost the sky layer contrast and brightness and bring out the clouds, create new working layer from visible result, sharpen, save, scale image to 6000px wide, sharpen, save, add fine black-and-white frame, add bar and text on left, save, scale image to 3000 wide for posting online, sharpen slightly, save.
