Weathered Green Barn, Sixteen Road - a photo on Flickriver

            While out for a meander through the rural area East of Smithville, Ontario (St Anns, strictly speaking) a few weeks ago I came across a weathered green barn just of Sixteen Road. The exposed West wall, which, in this area, receives the brunt of weather-related damage, had been nearly stripped of its green paint leaving this interesting corrugated surface. The placement of the vent between the two windows suggested a symmetrical composition would be a natural.  - JW

Tech Details:

Taken using a tripod-mounted Nikon D800 fitted with an AF-S Nikkor 24-120mm VR 1:4.0 lense set to 66mm, ISO100, Daylight WB, Matrix metering, Aperture Priority Mode, f/8.0, 1/50 sec with an EV+0.33 exposure bias. PP in free Open Source RAWTherapee from Nikon RAW/NEF source file: set final image size to be 9000px wide and then crop to a panorama format, darken the image overall by setting the Exposure Compensation to EV-0.44, enable Tone Mapping at default levels, use Tone Curve 2 to darken the Lights and the Highlights and also slightly brighten the darks, use Shadows?Highlights to recover Highlights further, increase Contrast and Chromaticity and slightly reduce Lightness in L-A-B mode, slightly increase Vibrance, slightly increase black level, sharpen (edges only), save. PP in free Open Source GIMP: use the Curves tool to fine tune the tonality, slightly increase Contrast, add a non-destructive Dodge/Burn layer and use it to darken/Burn the lower left portion of the frame and thereby bring its brightness in line with the rest of the frame, create new working layer from visible result, save, scale image to 7000 px wide, save, add fine black-and-white frame, add bar and text on left, save, scale image to 4000 px wide for posting online.
