Awaiting Restoration: Vintage GMC - a photo on Flickriver

            Back in the Spring, while having some work done on my vehicle in Virgil, Ontario (technically this is now Niagara-on-the Lake thanks to the regional government mania several decades back), I came across a familiar restoration project in waiting, an old (1950/51 GMC pickup truck. Several body panels had clearly been started many years ago and the panels sported a mix of original green paint, red primer and rust. I love this kind of stuff.  Tight crop yields an nice abstract as seen here. Old cars – a weakness of mine. This truck – still waiting to find parts, so a possible return trip at some later date. - JW

Tech Details:

Taken using a hand-held Nikon D800 fitted with an AF-S Nikkor 24-120mm 1:4.0 lense set to 24mm, ISO100, Auto WB, Matrix metering, Aperture Priority mode, f/9.0, 1/60 sec with an EV-0.33 exposure bias to preserve darker areas’ tonality. PP in free Open Source RAWTherapee from Nikon RAW/NEF source file: set final image size to be 9000px wide, slightly brighten the image overall by setting exposure compensation to EV+0.51, apply Tone Mapping at default levels, slightly DECREASE lightness and contrast and Chromaticity in L-A-B mode, to get a more realistic slightly-desaturated look, slightly reduce Vibrance, use Tone Curve 2 tool in parametric mode to slightly darken the Lights as well as the Highlights to get the top of the hood to look right, sharpen (edges only), save. PP in free Open Source GIMP: use the tone curve tool to very slightly darken the to 50% (approx) of the curve while holding the rest of the curve at default level, sharpen slightly, save, scale to 6000px wide, sharpen slightly, save, add fine black-and-white frame, add bar and text on left, save, scale image to 3000 px wide for posting online, sharpen very slightly, save.
