04 - Pompeii - Satyr & Maenad - Painted Plaster, Naviglio House, 45-79 AD(E)

            Finally went to see Life and Death in Pompeii, 79 AD, at the California Science Center. Tickets to the Space Shuttle endeavour were complimentary!

What struck me most about the exhibit is how much like today the 1st Century Romans lived. Their gardening tools and cookware look like they came from an old barn. I'd be proud to have a beautiful bath tube like that. And, I have glassware not so different from the blue glass displayed!

The art seems to have inspired later centuries. The landscape looks like a mansion which might have been built in the 1880's. The Satyr & Maenad seems to have inspired the Rococo period and the Tree Shaped Oil Lamp might as well be the forerunner to Art Nouveau!

The Space Shuttle Endeavour is, well, a space shuttle. It was smaller than I expected, but big enough so that I had to use Stitcher to get the whole thing in.
