01/01/2009 (Day 3.1) - A Happy New Year From Wombeyan Caves

Day 1 of a new 365 Days project. Let's see if I can manage a third year, shall we?

Today we took a trip to Wombeyan Caves. It's a longer journey from here than we thought it would be; took us nearly three hours to get there, and another three hours back. And we only spent about three hours there. I think the trick is to camp there for a few days. The main reason for going was that the roads into it are unsealed, and we wanted to give our 4x4 a bit of a run off the tarmac. Which we did.

Anyway, the caves are well worth seeing; spectacular limestone formations. The one we went into goes down through about five levels, and drops 60m or so. Some bits have a ceiling low enough that I had to stoop. And this picture shows one of them.

I may post more pictures of our outing if I can find any that don't suck.
