- Castle confiscated from Lovells for supporting the deposed Henry VI
- Bought by Sir Thomas Arundell
- Sir Thomas Arundell executed for supporting the Protector Somerset
- Old Wardour bought back for the family by Sir Thomas' son, Sir Matthew Arundell
1570s - Sir Matthew added up-to-date Renaissance features
The castle surrendered to Parliamentarians following a 6-day siege after threats to blow it up
- Parliamentarians surrendered to Henry, 3rd Lord Arundell, after a 3-month siege ended when Henry Arundell blew up one side of his own castle with a mine
- Castle confiscated after parliamentarians won Civil War
- Henry recovered castle when the monarchy was restored
- A landscaped park created featuring the ruined castle
