126. G-ASPN 2 Douglas C-54A Invicta Airways (ex British Eagle) LPL 13FEB65

            Replacing an earlier scanned slide with a better version 23-Feb-15.

G-ASPN at Liverpool, UK just prior to it's delivery to Invicta. Not much of a repaint required by British Eagle Engineering at Liverpool. It was about to depart on a pre-delivery test flight with a British Eagle crew (Capt Honeyman & F/O Bob Wright who are seen in the photo) who were a bit sad that it was their last DC-4 flight.  They transferred on to Viscounts!  The aircraft was delivered a week later.

G-ASPN was delivered to the US Army Air Force in Jul-44, serialled 42-72232 and was immediately transferred to the US Navy as Bua39175.  It was sold to Transocean Air Lines in 1946 as N49288.

It was leased to Pakair, Pakistan, as AP-ADL in Sep-48, returning to Transocean in 1949, again as N49288.  Saudi Arabian Airlines bought it in Jun-52 as HZ-AAG.

It was sold to British Eagle in Feb-64 and was due to be registered G-AZPN, however that registration wasn't taken up and it became G-ASPN and operated for the summer season.  It was stored at Liverpool in Nov-64.

In Feb-65 it was sold to Invicta Airways.  Invicta Airways became Invicta Air Cargo in Jun-69.  They sold it to Africair as ZS-IRE in Apr-72 and it was operated by WENELA Pty Ltd.  It was re-registered in Botswana in Jun-72 as A2-ZGU.

It was sold in Zaire in 1976 as 9Q-CWP (9Q-CBP not taken up).  It was sold to GLM Aviation in late 1976 and retired at Kinshasa in Jan-82.  It was broken up there around 3 years later.
