022. 53-3303 (0-33303) Douglas VC-118A United States Air Force LPL 15JUL67

            Replacing an earlier scanned slide with a better version 20-Sep-15, plus DeNoise AI 17-Jan-23.

This was the personal transport of US Army General Lyman Lemnitzer who was Commander, NATO Forces Europe. He came over from Brussels for the day to watch the golf at Royal Birkdale. Nice for some! (but probably not for the poor soldiers who had to polish it!!).  There was a US 'Secret Service' guy (in the obligatory grey suit and shades) keeping an eye on it.  He was kind enough to walk 20 feet to the left while I took the photo.

This gleaming VC-118A was delivered to the United States Air Force in Dec-55 and retired at Davis Monthan AFB, Arizona, in Aug-77.  As the USAF never seem to want to throw anything away, it's probably still there.
