3.7 inch QF

            3.7 inch QF mountain howitzer, British, Dated 1939

Introduced in 1918 the 3.7 inch howitzer could be divided into eight mule loads of 113kg each. The gun had a maximum range of 5.5 kilometers and was especially suited to hilly or mouuntainous terrain where it could reach areas denied to a normal howitzer.  It could fire shrapnel or high explosive projectiles.  For this reason it was sent to many of the Far Eastern theatres of war especially Burma during the Second World War.  Some were used in the campaigns against the Bolshevics at Murmansk in 1918.

This type of gun was used by mountain regiments (RA) and in some field regiments in Burma during the Second World War.
