Red-shouldered Hawk with Greater Siren

As I was driving on the preserve road one morning recently, I came upon this hawk with what at first glance appeared to be a large snake. As I trained my camera on it, I could see it wasn't a snake but a huge Greater Siren, a specie I've seen only a couple of times.

I seem to recall Mulder and Scully battling such a creature on an episode of "The X-Files".
