Skee-Ball at the Coin Castle - a photo on Flickriver

            These machines are located along the same wall of the Coin Castle as the old ones I used to play when I was a child.  Back then, it cost 10 cents per game, and if you put in a quarter, they gave you triple tickets.  Now, it costs 50 cents per game, but a dollar gets you three games.  The old machines were similar, but the balls were made from wood and there were less targets.  The scores for each target used to be in increments of 10, where now they are in increments of 1,000.  The old machines did not have the 10,000 targets on the top right and left like the new ones.

As far as game play, the trick of banking the ball off the side still works pretty well on the new machines, but the wooden balls seemed to have better spin on them after they hit the side.  You can still bank the 4,000 target pretty easily, but it's tough to get enough spin to consistently bank the 5,000 without it bouncing out.  Using bank shots won't get you any 10,000 targets though.

The machine I played was the one with the score of 28,000.
