Queen St W from Dowling Ave to Wilson Park Rd, 2015

This was the only time I tried to capture the blocks between Jameson and Triller, when I managed to capture one complete record of both sides of the Queen West over a few days in the summer of 2015.

I was working fast and this was the source I got. Most of this picture lies behind the plane that is matched up — the rear edge of the sidewalk where the wrought iron fences are —
so there is significant parallax error.

For example the house at 1531 has only three windows on the porch, not five. I’d make different choices shooting it again.

(Parallax: When assembling I choose a single plane to match up — usually where storefronts meet the sidewalk — and accept that other planes will have errors. Foreground objects like poles may disappear into the parallax valley, and background objects will repeat.)

It was Friday morning when I shot these, my fourth day of shooting around traffic. The time in-between each exposure is the time it takes me to walk to the next spot and then wait for traffic to clear. A good break in the traffic would make me rush from spot to spot.

On this morning I started from Roncesvalles and managed to get the entire South side up to Dufferin before filling up storage or using up batteries. My methods are based on being one person trying to do too much.

My memory of all this is augmented by by photos and metadata.

While I still have quite a few of these to assemble, I’m really happy with how the finished Bathurst to Spadina 2015 assemblies work in my initial book layouts. I look forward to putting together a volume that is just Both Sides of Queen West, Summer 2015.
