Diamonds of Vatnajökull - a photo on Flickriver

            This scene is usually photographed with a beautiful setting sun shooting through the blocks of ice that Vatnajökull glacier has released to become one with the ocean. On this particular day I was happy and proud to be out shooting, as I've been numerously been made fun of for having "hardly used camera gear" and "still looks like new because you never took it outside" blah blah blah. On this particular day the viewfinder got filled with snow, the tripod feet got an armour of ice built around them by the snowing wind and I had to continously wipe of the LCD screen of the back of the camera due to the massive snowstorm that I was standing in. I loved it! Finally I could give my gear the respect it deserves, shooting in harsh conditions, attempting to give them battlescars so they could stand tall amongst the gear of proper landscape photographers. 

These rocks of ice are thousands of years old and are breaking away from Vatnajökull glacier - Europe's largest glacier, piece by piece. They begin their independant life in the glacier lagoon until they slowly swim out to sea where they will eventually melt, become one with the oceans, and ultimately help the base sea level to rise.
