La Rochelle - Green Top Lighthouse Detail -Phare du Quai Valin

            This slender lighthouse rises straight out of the city's historic waterfront. Built in 1852, the white and green lighthouse, located on quai Valin, and the white and red lighthouse, close to Saint Nicholas' tower, are aligning lighthouses. They allow the boats coming from the sea to steer safely, night and day, in the access channel to reach the old port and the adjoining docks. These visual landmarks are still very useful for sailors using La Rochelle port.

La Rochelle is a coastal city in the Poitou Charentes region of southwest France. It has been a harbour and a centre for fishing and trade since the 12th century, a maritime tradition that's reflected in its Vieux Port (old harbour) and huge, modern Les Minimes marina. The old town has half-timbered medieval houses and Renaissance architecture, including passageways covered by 17th-century arches.
