This year was the 11th for the festival which takes place at Bishops Square by Spitalfield's Market. For photos of the 2016 event see: www.flickr.com/photos/kmlivemusic/albums/72157671125035785/. In recent years the number of guest musicians from abroad has increased and for the fist time they took part in a concert the evening before the day.

Country: Japan. Style: Traditional Okinawan (Yaeyama).

Lineup: Sugita Sono (v/sanshin), Florian Bricard (shime-daiko/okinawan odaiko).

Sugita Sono is from Shiga Prefecture in mainland Japan, and has studied the music of the Yaeyama group of islands in the south of Okinawa. She was accompanied by her husband Florian Bricard.
