CN 2507 near Twining, AB - a photo on Flickriver

            Yes, that's one of 27 C44-9WLs down there. I think the dynamic range of the 90D is pretty impressive but this lighting really pushed it to its limit (the kit lens not helping matters) so you'll just have to take my word that that jumble of pixels is in fact CN 2507 and not some other locomotive.

This shot was taken roughly 9 miles south of Three Hills but it was immediately after Three Hills, less than a quarter mile, that everything started going wrong. It was pouring rain all throughout southern Kneehill County and the plan was to follow this train south through the downpour and, as it came into the clearer weather near Calgary, get some storm lit photos. It wasn't meeting anything, it was cleared most of the way south, and it was just starting to go through the worst of the storm now; perfect timing for the shots further south. Seriously, what could go wrong? Well, the second unit died, the train stalled coming into Swalwell, limped back into the siding at Perks, tied down to wait for a rescue crew and that was that. 

Avery, who was waiting for it at Beiseker, drove up here to meet me and we waited out what was left of the storm. We shot it here, tied down, with the retreating storm clouds. For what seemed like a simple, fool proof plan, it's amazing how quickly it all fell apart. You'd think that by now I'd know that nothing ever goes to plan but here we are.

Considering that my shots of a storm lit train have gone up by 100% (1 from 0), I don't think that I can complain too much and, despite not at all being what I had planned, I can't call this a total failure
