Ring - a photo on Flickriver

Ring

            You could clasp your hands together and easily fit them through this large steel ring. It had many nautical uses, including tying-up boats in the East Channel. There are many here, but likely 
soon to be gone; the area is undergoing major reconstruction; I doubt these will survive. This was a Naval pier, where once battleships tied-up -- before and during WWII most notably. Warehouses built in the early 1900's have been made nearly obsolete with the explosion in container shipping. The water tower - atop the historic Warehouse 1 - displays multi-language greetings to ships entering the Port of Los Angeles. I needed clearance to shoot here.
