Color Palette of the California Grassland

            What is sadly the last vestige of native California grassland shows off a taste of what once covered thousands of square miles during a superbloom spring. Swatches of red, yellow, and purple mingle with the vibrant greens in this lush grassland. It’s important to appreciate the times of plenty like this as the rare jewels they are, contrasted with years like 2021 where the drought conditions have left this landscape completely brown. When I visit here I ponder how much of the coastal ranges and central valley looked like this prior to the landscape’s erasure and repainting with homogeneous blocks of cultivation. One can only imagine now.
