Neon Orange Accents - a photo on Flickriver

            As part of a spectacle not likely to be repeated anytime soon, parts of a vast eruption of California Poppies bloomed northern faces of the undulating terrain of the Temescal Mountains. This surprise superbloom caused quite the sensation when it occurred in 2019. The area simply was woefully unprepared for the popularity that would ensue and the whole area has soured so much on the crowds that this area has been completely off-limits to people during spring this year and the last few. It’s an unfortunate reality of today’s world I guess that social media fueled popularity can cause people to trample paths into the flowers, pounding the dirt into such compaction that flowers won’t grow again in those spots for decades. But, on this day I wandered far down the fire roads and pre-existing paths to see this view away from the crowds of a small rugged canyon accented by the incredible color of California Poppies which is so saturated that really a normal photograph or print doesn’t do them justice. Perhaps one day the area will bloom again and people will be allowed to return, but if so it will perhaps be years.
