They are almost clean now Madam! - a photo on Flickriver

            This week provided two of the biggest challenges of this project so far. The first was Kim's quite remarkable theme. "Ok," she said, "are you ready?" Always a thing to set one worrying. "You have to include a toothbrush," hmm, ok, fine, "a cell-phone" she means a mobile phone - whatever. With a toothbrush? Ok. "And," big pause for dramatic effect, "one high-heeled shoe." Right. What!?!! "So, what do you think?" Apart from, Kim, you've finally lost it? "Sounds great," I said and then started panicking.

In the end I came up with a number of 'scenarios' in which I could conceivably have those three items together, and shot two of them. Hence the second challenge, which picture to choose. I feel quite comfortable that you all know I can do goofball, crazy expressions and generally act the clown, but as the main reason for this project is to explore my capabilities as a photographer and artist, I want to make sure I can produce a powerful image that doesn't rely on me pulling a comedy face. In the end I went for the image above as I felt it fulfilled Kim's crazy theme in the most clean, succinct and direct way. I still worry that it relies on a comedy element, but hopefully that is a product of my imagination and creativity rather than my plastic face.
