No início da colonização do território gaúcho, por volta do fim do século XVII, com a fundação de uma comunidade no litoral de Santa Catarina, fez-se necessária uma personagem que tivesse coragem e perseverança para desbravar o território do pampa que mal era nomeado. Essas pessoas notáveis e seus cavalos ajudaram a converter uma terra sem fronteiras, selvagem e hostil na região hoje chamada de Pampas Gaúchos.
Desafiando a região, montado em seu pequeno e notável cavalo, ou carregando suas mulas através do Prata, até São Paulo e Minas Gerais, o tropeiro, como ficou conhecido, marcou sua trilha o conhecido Caminho das Tropas e ganhou significância histórica em comparação a outras rotas, por ter sido o primeiro e mais importante, ao longo do qual se fundaram diversas cidades e difundiu a cultura gaúcha através do Estado, bem como o destaque ao Cavalo Crioulo. Existem mais de 120 municípios e povoados gaúchos gerados pelo acampamento das tropas de cavaleiros.
As tropas sobreviveram até meados dos anos 50, quando finalmente foram deixadas de lado e tornadas obsoletas pela utilização de caminhões boiadeiros.
Ainda hoje, encontramos descendentes dos antigos tropeiros ao longo da rota das tropas, que recebem o visitante sempre munido do inseparável chimarrão e onde não se consegue sair sem conhecer os seus notáveis cavalos, descendentes daqueles primeiros que desbravaram a rota das Tropas ao longo dos anos.

In the early colonization of the state territory, by the end of the seventeenth century with the founding of a community on the coast of Santa Catarina, it was necessary a character who had the courage and perseverance to brave the territory of the pampas that was barely named. These remarkable people and their horses helped convert a land without borders, wild and hostile in the region now called Pampas Gauchos.
Defying the region, mounted on their small and remarkable horse, or loading their mules through Silver to Sao Paulo and Minas Gerais, the drover, as it became known, marked his trail the known path of troops and gained historical significance in comparison to other routes, for being the first and most important, over which he founded several cities and spread the gaucho culture through the state, as well as highlighting the Criollo horse. There are more than 120 cities and towns gauchos generated by the camp of the troops of horsemen.
The troops survived until the mid-50s when they were finally set aside and rendered obsolete by the use of trucks cowboys.
Even today, we find descendants of the ancient drovers along the route of the troops, who receive visitors always provided with the inseparable mate and where you can not leave without knowing their remarkable horses, descendants of those who first explored the route of the troops over the years
