Ladybird on thistle - a photo on Flickriver

            Yesterday's post was a first image with my new old Takumar SMC lens, a vintage lens that is coming up on 50 years old. Today I took it out to a local nature area to see how it performed shooting flowers. First of all I should say it's not a macro lens in that the close focusing point seems to be around 35 to 40cm. But I was amazed at how well it did shooting macro type photos. The obvious attraction of this kind of lens is the bokeh it produces and how it separates the subject from the background. It does that very well but its also surprisingly sharp shot wide open at f/1.4 where the DoF is tiny. This shot is virtually straight out camera with only a few very basic adjustments as I wanted to post an image that represented the true quality of this lens. What I will say is that it does have a slight preference for warmer toned images which may be due to the coating these lenses have on the glass which yellows slightly over time. Although I didn't do it here a very slight tweak to the temperature in Lightroom sorts that out in no time. So overall very happy with this little lens!
