Hendy pool - demolition - a photo on Flickriver

Hendy Outdoor Swimming Pool was built during the depression of the early 1930s, by out-of-work voluntary labour. The tools used during that period were primitive in comparison with today - pick axe, spade, wheelbarrows and trams loaned from nearby collieries. Funds to buy materials were raised locally and out of this money the volunteers were given a packet of 10 Woodbines for a day’s work or a bar of chocolate for the non-smokers. The pool opened in 1933.
