No good on pizza.... - a photo on Flickriver

            This beautiful thing is a type of ornamental Oregano…you can’t do much with it in the kitchen but it looks very pretty in a pot outdoors in summer.  It has a faint but distinctive oregano scent, it’s little leaves grow out and gently turn pink over summer, and finally the tiniest pink/purple flowers bloom in between the leaves.  It’s a fascinating little plant and also quite easy to grow. You can cut some of the stems off and dry them at the end of summer, they make really pretty indoor decorations over winter in miniature vases, if you’re that way inclined.
The whole plant disappears down to nothing over winter so you have to remember where you’ve put it, which is an increasing challenge for me these days, the poor thing will probably end up on the compost heap if I don’t put a label on it this year!

I took this in July when we had 3 hours of sunshine, apparently that was Summer.
