Nuttallburg Mine Button and Rope - a photo on Flickriver

            The Button and Rope system to move coal by conveyer. It was sold and built by the Fairmont Mining Machinery Company of Fairmont, West Virginia in 1926 when Henry Ford upgraded the facilities. the wire cable aka rope is 1 1/8 inches thick. The buttons were cast iron disks.  The buttons were spaced at 4 ft intervals. The conveyor moved the coal at 80 feet per minute and allowed for 125 tons of coal per hour.
