here the lol-ita icon was born (and from it, the name--the red sunglasses reminded me of kubrick's poster, from probably the same year as this photo, lol : ))

i grew up in hollywood and used to gaze on the hollywood sign in the distance as i walked to school, passing a trailer for the desilu studios adorned with caricatures of lucy and ricky. in those days i dreamed of becoming a movie star, and here i'm sure i was trying to look the part.

i was probably 3 or 4 years old--i date the photo by the fact that all my clothes were hand-me-downs from my sister, who in this picture is wearing a dress that (to judge by its tightness) would soon be mine; i wear it in my kindergarten portrait at age 5.
