I went a little different with this week's theme. These 4 little glass bottles are probably circa 1880’s - 1910. They were found on the site of my former public school, which at the time was named North Ward Public school, in St. Marys, Ontario. Originally built in 1875, its most famous graduate was Arthur Meighen, the ninth Prime Minister of Canada and was called the St.Marys Collegiate Institute at the time. My Dad also went to this school, so he’s my favorite former student. The name was changed again in 1984 to Arthur Meighen Public School. Unfortunately, the school’s last class graduated in 2010 when the school was deemed irreparable. When I heard the school was to be torn down in 2016, I was genuinely saddened. My husband is a bottle collector, and has friends from the hobby all over the country. One of his friends from St.Marys had mentioned that he was able to get ahold of a few ink bottles that had been found on the site of the abandoned school. He was kind enough to save these 4 for me. My husband Glen, likes to joke that I may have used these very bottles while I was being educated at the old North Ward school! I may be a few years older than him, but I am not THAT old!!
