Great Central Railway Loughborough Leicestershire 22nd December 2013

            2013 is definitely going out on a high because my last turn of the year was on recently-arrived British Railways Standard Pacific 70013 Oliver Cromwell. Even the 05.00am start couldn't phase me when I had the chance to work on a Brit! We were on the "Santa Plus" train which meant two full trips with 7 coaches rather than top & tailing with a diesel.

This was the first weekend Cromwell has been used but it will be in service over the Christmas & New Year period and is to stay at the GCR for the January Gala.

This shot was taken at 07.43 after emptying the ashpan. The fire had been a bit lifeless because the pan was jammed with ash & clinker which was choking the firebed not allowing enough primary air through. Clearing the rubbish out let the pressure quickly come round and I had aboput 90psi on at this time and 160psi when we went of shed at 08.20.
