Barrow Hill Chesterfield Derbyshire 27th September 2014

            Alan & Naomi exchange a few words in the platform by the shed. I was rostered fireman on LNER new-build A1 4-6-2 60163 Tornado at the Live Steam event on shed at Barrow Hill. The A1 Trust support crew John & Naomi had prepared the engine in the morning and would dispose it in the evening so I felt very privileged.

We spent the morning on display in the siding and the afternoon running the shuttle service from the shed platform 3/4 mile up the old colliery branch. Despite quite a steep gradient out of the yard, not a hard task for an A1 it has to be said.

The old gentleman in the fireman's seat was 89 years old & had worked as a fireman & driver at Colwick shed Nottingham.
