Barrow Hill Chesterfield Derbyshire 27th September 2014

            I was rostered fireman on LNER new-build A1 4-6-2 60163 Tornado at the Live Steam and model railway event on shed at Barrow Hill. The A1 Trust support crew John & Naomi had prepared the engine in the morning and would dispose it in the evening so I felt very privileged.

We spent the morning on display in the siding and the afternoon running the shuttle service from the shed platform 3/4 mile up the old colliery branch. Despite quite a steep gradient out of the yard, not a hard task for an A1 it has to be said.

Here Naomi is pulling coal down for me prior to the first shuttle run. This beautiful British Railways blue livery is due to be replaced by Apple Green after this winter's intermediate overhaul.
