Krøderen Norway 29th June 2008

            Krøderbanen, which opened in 1872, is one of Norway's oldest railways. Originally a narrow gauge railway, it was rebuilt as a standard gauge train line in connection with the opening of the Bergen railway in 1909. It has been a heritage line since 1985.

Out of Krøderen Thune's Mekaniske Vaersted 2-8-0 356 (Oslo 1912) was down to slow walking speed and slipped several times threatening to stall on this section. Fortunately the slips were controlled and we slowly gathered speed and made it to the top. The line then generally ran level before dropping down to Vikersund.

The steam trains only run on Sundays between June & August.
