- a photo on Flickriver

            My first photo on Flickr was a shaky image taken with a Canon A80 that I had stuck out the window of an ambulance while we were driving down the street, pre-dawn. 

It is a terrible photo! I am still, 20 years later, confused as to why I chose That photo beyond, that account was run by several people, we were all part of a blog called Fort Drastic, a bunch of friends posting weird and funny things for each other and our small audience. 

Flickr seemed a good way to advertise our small and funny and weird site. 

It was not particularly successful...for that. 

It did, on the other hand, lead me down a road that took me from one end of the country to the other, to England and back and England and back again, Canada...but even better, I met dozens of people, talked to dozens more, photographed HUNDREDS of people, became A Photographer, had numerous adventures...this site changed the course of my very life. I say that with ease, because it's so apparent. I would be a completely different person without it. 

Let us raise an imaginary glass to a very real place, Happy Birthday, Flickr.
