Douglas DC-8-32, Swissair, HB-IDA, „Matterhorn“, X-Scale, 1:144

            Die DC-8 war das erste düsengetriebene Verkehrsflugzeug von Douglas und nach der Boeing 707 das zweite  düsengetriebene Verkehrsflugzeug der USA. 

Die DC-8 wurde im Juli 1955 offiziell angekündigt. Der Erstflug fand am 30. Mai 1958 statt. Für die folgenden Testflüge wurden 10 Maschinen eingesetzt und am 31. August 1959 wurde die FAA-Zulassung erteilt.

Am 21. August 1961 durchbrach eine DC-8-43 im Sinkflug als erstes Passagierflugzeug die Schallmauer. 

Die DC-8 HB-IDA, Serienummer 45416/54, wurde am 20. APRIL 1960 an die Swissair ausgeliefert.

Im März 1961 wurde HB-IDA zur DC-8-33 umgebaut und „Geneve“ getauft.
Der Umbau betraf vor allem die Triebwerke, die Klappen und das Fahrwerk.

1968 wurde die HB-IDA an die Südflug verkauft. Danach wurde sie bei weiteren Fluggesellschaften eingesetzt, bis sie schließlich 1985 verschrottet wurde.
