First Impressions - a photo on Flickriver

First Impressions

             While watching the smaller Raven last weekend,  I decided to bring out one of my water crackers I snacked on during our long drive in the car. I wasn't planning on feeding any birds but I was curious about this Raven. I broke a cracker into pieces and put it on the railing.  In a matter of moments a larger Raven swooped down to check out the food. He eyed it carefully as he cocked his head in different positions. Then he scooped up the pieces and he seemed to tease the other Raven with it. My first impression was "What a bully?"
  I certainly didn't expect what happened next. The two Ravens flew to the ground and started doing a small "dance" around each other. Next, the larger Raven opened his beak and let the smaller Raven put his/her beak into it to feed. I wondered if this was a mother with a young one. When I got home I did some research and discovered that unlike crows, Ravens hang out as a couple, not as  a family.  What I first thought was a "bully" probably was a very protective and caring male taking care of his partner!
