Letzter Betriebstag der BR 485 "Coladose".

            DEU: Mit Sternfahrten bot die S-Bahn Berlin am 12.11.23 einen würdigen Abschied von der Baureihe 485:
Am Vormittag fuhren jeweils stündlich auf dem S Schöneweide auf den beiden Linien S47 und S8 in jeweils beiden Richtungen geschmückte Züge der BR 485 ein, so dass zeitgleich vier Züge der BR 485 am S Schöneweide hielten.
Hier fährt eine S8 durch die sog. "Ulbricht-Kurve" nach S Pankow. An dieser Stelle fuhren die östlichen und die westlichen S-Bahn mit wenigen Metern Abstand aneinender vorbei, getrennt durch mehrere Mauerlinien, über deren Oberkante man manchmal einen Blick auf die Dächer der "gegnerischen" Züge erhaschen konnte. 
Die BR 485 war eine DDR-Entwicklung und relativ einfach, aber robust konstruiert. So verzichtete man z. B. auf Schwenk-Schiebetüren und baute einfache Außenschiebetüren ein, die den "Coladosen" ihr typisches Aussehen eines Slam-door-train gaben.
Der Fahrkomfort war für eine S-Bahn vollig ausreichend. Heute unvorstellbar: Es gab Gepäckablagen! Typisch war - im Motorwagen - das aus unendlichen Tiefen hervorsteigende Anfahrgeräusch, das, wenn man einen Sitzplatz bekam, spürbar die Wirbelsäule hochkrabbelte und bei Erreichen der Streckengeschwindigkeit in ein krächzendes Jaulen wechseln konnte.

ENG: The S-Bahn Berlin offered a proper farewell to the class 485 with special runs at 23-11--12-11:
In the morning, decorated Class 485 trains arrived at S Schöneweide every hour on the two lines S47 and S8 in both directions, so that four Class 485 trains stopped at S Schöneweide at the same time.
Here an S8 passes through the so-called "Ulbricht curve" to S Pankow. At this point, the eastern and western S-Bahn trains passed each other a few meters apart, separated by several lines of wall, over the upper edge of which you could sometimes catch a glimpse of the roofs of the "opposing" trains.
The trains were nicknamed "Coladose" because of their original red livery and the aluminum body.
The BR 485 was a GDR development and had a relatively simple but robust design. For example, they dispensed with swivel-sliding doors and installed simple external sliding doors, which gave the "Coke cans" their typical slam-door-train appearance.
The ride comfort was completely adequate for an S-Bahn. Unimaginable today: there were luggage racks! Typical - in the motor car - was the starting noise that rose from infinite depths, which, when you got a seat, noticeably crawled up your spine and could change to a croaking howl when the BR 485 reached line speed.
