Memento Mori Corset Brooch - a photo on Flickriver

            When I found this beautiful old piece it was in rugged shape and in need of some enhancements. 7 of its lovely amber-toned stones were missing, so I filled the settings with resin, carefully adding archival-quality photos of decayed clock faces and images of Victorian-era women--Lost Heroines. Then I went to work on the largest leaf frond and wire-wrapped assorted gears and watch parts to heighten the steampunk vibe. The brooch is large(3 1/3" x 3") and has a safety catch closure. Although it probably is a coat pin,I think it would look charming pinned to a corset, bustle or hat. To be worn gently as it is antique.

I am doing a whole series of pieces now that feature archival photos of women from the late 1800's to the early 1900's. I think of these women as lost heroines, wondering what their lives must have been like.
