Kaleidoscopes - a photo on Flickriver

Kaleidoscopes

Two pulley operated kaleidoscopes in wood frame. Hand crank counter-rotates two glass discs with geometric designs, resulting in kaleidoscope effect. Perhaps used for a Magic Lantern Glass Slide Chromatrope. Painted glass discs rotate in metal rims.
Early 19th century.
