1890s brimless crepe mourning bonnet

This solemn, brimless, and close-fitting mourning bonnet is of a heavily textured black crêpe.
The bonnet is lined with black silk, with a boned band of pleated black netting over the forehead. The face is framed with a short crape ruffle, and the rest of the bonnet is draped with crêpe in a sash-like manner. The back of the bonnet cuts up in a point, and the bottom edge is decorated with one length of pleated black ribbon that continues into long sash ties.
The gold label on the lining reads "Mme Howard // 91 Mount Vernon St. // BOSTON"
